Expert advice provided to help you choose your new instrument, bow, or case whether you are a novice player or an
experienced professional.

Things every string player should know:

· Violins, violas and cellos are easily affected by changes in temperature and humidity.Sudden changes may cause the seams to open up, or may cause the instrument to crack.
· Leaving your instrument in a hot car may cause damage to the varnish or other serious damage.
· Bow hair is quickly affected by changes in humidity, and may seem too long in humid weather, or seem too short in very dry weather.
· Cases should always be latched securely when the violins and violas are placed in them to prevent the instrument from falling out. We have seen the damage caused by this acciden- tal situation.
· Rosin dust, on the instrument and bow stick, should be cleaned with a soft dry cloth.
· Never use furniture polish!
· Player should check the bridge periodically to be sure that it's not warping. Straighten back to a square and upright position to help in preventing the bridge from falling over and/or breaking.
· The bow is easily damaged and should be handled carefully. Latch bow into the case after being used. Loosen the hair when putting bow away to help prevent warping of the stick.
· Player should be careful not to get oil or dirt from the hands on the bow hair.
· Have bows rehaired regularly.
· The player should contact a professional shop if a problem is noticed, and don't attempt making repairs at home without first seeking expert advice.
